Biographical History

Jack Bollens; John Charles Bollens; born in Detroit, Michigan, May 20, 1928; conscientious objector to World War II, performed alternative service in a Detroit public hospital; graduated with a B.A. from Heidelberg College (Tiffin, Ohio) and a B.D. from Eden Theological Seminary (Webster Groves, Missouri); ordained as a United Church of Christ minister, but eventually left the ministry; worked actively in the peace movement from ca. 1957-1971; director of American Friends Service Committee's Peace Education program in the Midwest and in New England from 1957-1964; senior staff member of Center for War/Peace Studies (later called Center for Global Perspectives) from 1964-1967; became Executive Director of the Midwest Chapter of the World Without War Council from 1967-1971; died February 1, 2009.
