Biographical History

Charles Southward Singleton (1909-1985) was professor of Hispanic and Italian studies at The Johns Hopkins University. He specialized in early Italian literature especially the works of Dante and Boccaccio. His best known works were his 6-volume English translation with commentary of Dante's "Divine Comedy" (1975) and his edition of Boccaccio's "Decameron" (1982).
