Biographical History

On August 11, 1930, the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Iowa and Other States (Iowa Synod), the Synod of the Lutheran Church Emigrated From Prussia (Buffalo Synod), the Evangelical Lutheran Joint Synod of Ohio and Adjacent States (Joint Synod of Ohio), and the First Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Texas (Texas Synod) merged and combined to form the American Lutheran Church (ALC). All the property of the four groups was at that time or shortly thereafter, transferred to the ALC.

Skeleton organizations were then formed for each merging synod and were continued from that time until their dissolution on October 11, 1940. These "skeleton synods" were created for the purpose of completing any unfinished business of the Iowa Synod, Buffalo Synod, Joint Synod of Ohio and Texas Synod, and to receive any gifts, devises or bequests which may have been payable to each of the four synods. The skeleton synods could not carry on any function unless they were so directed by the ALC Board of Trustees.
