Biographical History
John Adams, son of John Quincy Adams, was his father's private secretary in the White House. Russell Jarvis was a reporter for the Washington Daily Telegraph. He wrote numerous articles against the Adams administration. After a series of perceived insults, the two had a fistfight in the Capitol Rotunda on 15 Apr. 1828. An investigating committee of the House of Representatives determined that Jarvis had attacked Adams and it censured Jarvis.
