Biographical History

George Gould Lincoln (1880-1974) graduated from Yale University in 1902 and worked for the Washington Times from 1903 to 1909. He was an editor and columnist for the Washington Evening Star (which later became the Washington Star-News) from 1909 to 1974. He specialized in political reporting, and wrote stories about every president from Theodore Roosevelt to Gerald R. Ford. He covered every national political convention from 1920 to 1960. Although he formally retired from the Washington Star-News in 1964, he continued to write a weekly column for the paper for the next ten years. President Richard M. Nixon awarded Gould the Presidential Medal of Freedom on April 22, 1970.
