Biographical History

Isaiah Garrett was born Sept. 16, 1812 at Franklin, Tenn. He was a cadet at the U.S. Military Academy (1829-1833), but despite graduating, never served in the Army. He moved to Monroe, La., where he practised law and married Narcissa Grayson (1816-1890) on May 10, 1836. Garrett served as district attorney for Ouachita Parish (1836-1839), a member of the Convention for Remodeling the Constitution of Louisiana (1845), and Ouachita Parish's delegate to the Louisiana Secession Convention at which he voted against secession (1861). He died May 5, 1874 at Monroe, La.
