Biographical History

Orlando Ward (b. Nov. 4, 1891, Macon, Mo.-d. Feb. 5, 1972), Major General in the U.S. Army, graduated from West Point in 1915 and served in Mexico and with the 3rd Army in the American Expeditionary Force. He was an instructor at the University of Wisconsin and at the Field Artillery School. During World War II, he was commanding general of the 1st Armored Brigade, the 1st Armored Division in the North African Theater of Operations, and the 20th Armored Division. After the War, General Ward served as commanding general of V Corps, commander of the 6th Division, and chief of military history, U.S. Army, until his retirement in 1953.
