Epithet: Master of Jesus College Cambridge
George Elwes Corrie (1793-1885) was born in Colsterworth, Lincolnshire, on 28 April 1793. He was educated by his father, before entering St Catharine's College, Cambridge, in 1813 (B.A., 1817). He took orders, and became assistant tutor, and then tutor, of his college, 1817-1849. He was Norrisian professor of divinity at the university, 1838-1854, and became master of Jesus College in 1849, and the university's vice-chancellor in 1850. He was rector of Newton, Cambridgeshire, 1851-1885. Corrie wrote on the history of the English church and edited Anglican theological works. He died on 20 September 1885.
