Biographical History

Antiquarian Samuel Meyrick was born into a wealthy family, graduated from Oxford, and worked as an advocate. He had an abiding interest in history, and published numerous articles on the subject, as well as writing several books and editing several others. He collected armor, eventually building a famous collection, and designed a mansion with special rooms to display his collection. An acknowledged expert on armor, he served as a national advisor, setting up the armor collections for the Tower of London and Windsor Castle, and wrote the seminal and authoritative work on the subject.

From the description of Samuel Meyrick letters to Mr. Davidson, 1835-1837. (Pennsylvania State University Libraries). WorldCat record id: 67612864
