Biographical History

John Henry Jenks, a native of North Brookfield, Massachusetts, settled in Keene, New Hampshire where he was employed as a shoemaker and merchant. On August 28, 1862, Jenks enlisted in the 14th New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry. Jenks primarily served in and around Washington, D.C. prior to the 1864 Shenandoah Valley (Virginia) campaign. Jenks saw action at Winchester (September 19) and Fisher's Hill (September 22) prior to the Battle of Cedar Creek (October 19), where he received a mortal wound to the head.
