Biographical History
A native of Garrison, N.D., Sarah Vogel graduated from Mandan High School, and went on to receive an undergraduate degree from the University of North Dakota, and a Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law. Vogel worked as an attorney for many years in a variety of positions, including Corporate Attorney for the New York City Dept. of Consumer Affairs, Special Assistant for Consumer Affairs to the U.S. Secretary of Treasury, and Assistant Attorney General specializing in farm issues. Vogel also practiced law in Bismarck. In 1988, Sarah Vogel was elected North Dakota Commissioner of Agriculture, the first woman in the United States ever elected to this office. Vogel was a co-sponsor and founder of Marketplace (later Marketplace of Ideas), an economic development conference featuring North Dakota products and inventors. Vogel served as Commissioner of Agriculture until 1996. Vogel has returned to private law practice in Bismarck, with the firm of Wheeler Wolf.
