Lachlan Macquarie was Governor of New South Wales from 1810 to 1821.
Major George Ralph Payne Jarvis was the brother-in-law of Lachlan Macquarie.

Lachlan Macquarie was made a Lieutenant in the 77th Regiment and in 1788 embarked on the Dublin for Bombay where he saw action in the war with Tippoo Sahib, taking part in the siege of Cochin, (1795), the capture of Colombo and Point de Galle (1796). In 1797 he held the position of deputy paymaster-general of the Kings troops in the Bombay presidency and in 1794 saw action in the expedition against the Pyché Rajah and in 1799 at the battle of Seringapatam. From 1810-1821 he was Governor of N.S.W.
Lachlan Macquarie was born in 1762 on Ulva in the Scottish Hebrides. He joined the British army in 1776 and served in Canada, America, Jamaica, India and Egypt. In 1809 he was appointed Governor of N.S.W. and served in that position until 1821 when he returned to England.
Before becoming Governor of N.S.W. in 1810, Lachlan Macquarie served in various capacities with the British Army in India, and in 1807 was gazetted to command the 73rd Regiment.
