Material gathered by Behavioral Sciences Library Staff under the auspices of University Libraries as part of the Bibliographic Series project. Coordinated with Chicano Mobile Institute. Purpose to identify and list pertinent Chicano materials.
The Library and Reading Room opened for the first time on Oct. 19, 1874. The majority of the holdings at that time were the private property of Dr. Park. In 1894, these were formally given by him to the University Library. In 1891 the library received full title to the Territorial Library. When a new library building was built in 1933, it was names the George Thomas Library. The building retained that name when the new library was built in 1968 and the library named the Marriott Library.
The University of Deseret Library opened October 19, 1874, the majority of its holdings being the private collection of President John R. Park. The University of Deseret became the University of Utah in 1892. In 1894 these holdings were formally given to the University of Utah Library. The first Library Building was opened in 1900. This was succeeded by the George Thomas Library in 1935 and the current Marriott Library in 1968. Thomson (1962-1971), and Brigham D. Madsen (1971-1973).
