Phi Epsilon Kappa. Nu Chapter.

The Phi Epsilon Kappa Fraternity is the oldest national honorary physical education fraternity in the nation and the first fraternity on the La Crosse campus. The Phi Epsilon Kappa Fraternity was founded in 1913 at the Normal College of the American Gymnastics Union in Indianapolis, Indiana. La Crosse's Nu chapter of Phi Epsilon Kappa was organized by Walter Wittich in 1926. Wittich then went on to sponsor the fraternity throughout his life. In 1930, at the fraternity's national conference, the Nu chapter had the highest academic rating of any chapter in the country. The members of Phi Epsilon Kappa were professionally trained men engaged in or preparing for teaching health education, physical education, recreation education, or safety education. In 1975, Phi Epsilon Kappa extended membership to women. Some of the objectives of Phi Epsilon Kappa include fostering scientific research, facilitating the exchange of information and experience, and promoting sound community understanding.
