Of historical note in Dean Pershing's office files are the records on the remodeling of the Merrill Engineering Building between the years 1975 and 1983 in order to meet the needs of the College of Engineering. The remainder of this collection deals mostly with the accreditation of the college. During the 1969-1970 academic year, the Division of Materials Science and Engineering began its undergraduate program. The division's main focus was on the engineering of materials such as ceramics, metals and polymers.

Department of Materials Science and Engineering: During the 1969-1970 school year, the Divison of Materials Science and Engineering began its undergraduate program. Prior to this it was strictly a program designed for graduate students. The division's main focus was on the engineering of materials such as ceramics, metals, and polymers.
