Bill Minor was born in 1922 and spent his childhood moving between Louisiana and Mississippi with his family. In 1976, he purchased his own newspaper, the Capital Reporter. After he closed the paper's office in the early 1980s, he wrote a syndiated column from Jackson and won the first John Chancellor Award for Excellence in Journalism.
