Biographical History

Frog in the Well, a feminist press run by Susan M. Hester, was founded in 1970 in East Palo Alto, eventually moving to San Francisco. Initially printing largely pamphlets, the press began publishing books in 1980, with Andrea Dworkin's The New Womans Broken Heart. Other books published by the press include Against Sadomasochism: a Radical Feminist Analysis; Haley and Scotia, by Deborah Ellis, The Honesty Tree, by Carole Spearin McCauley; Remembering Who We Are by Barbara Deming; and Ariadne, by Batya Podos, among others.
