Oliver Granger (1794-1841) was born in Phelps, New York. He was a licensed Methodist preacher and sheriff in Ontario County, New York, in the 1820s. In 1832 he read the Book of Mormon and was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Brigham Young. Granger was made an elder of the Church on the same day. In 1833 he joined the Mormons in Kirtland, Ohio, and after his return from an eastern states mission was made a member of the Kirtland high council. In 1838 the First Presidency asked Granger to be the Church's agent for outstanding debts and property sales. He lived in Kirtland until his death in August 1841.
