Biographical History

Biographical note: Godfrey Sykes, an engineer, came to Arizona in 1886 and settled on a ranch near Flagstaff. Along with his brother Stanley Sykes, he opened a repair workshop in Flagstaff. Godfrey came to Tucson to work for the Carnegie Desert Laboratory in 1896 and accompanied many research expeditions with the Lab. His sons, Glenton and Gilbert often accompanied him in his work. Glenton received an engineering degree from the U of A in 1923 and later served as Tucson's City Engineer for many years.
