Biographical History

Lieutenant Colonel Robert Stewart served with George Washington in the Virginia Regiment during the French and Indian War. Stewart personally provided funding for the regiment and was given a royal promise by Governor Robert Dinwiddie for remuneration. Dinwiddie reported to Lord Sydney, His Majesty's principal Secretary of State, on Stewart's generosity.
