Biographical History

James Logan, colonial statesman and scholar, became William Penn's secretary and emigrated to Pennsylvania in 1699.

Logan was later appointed Penn's financial agent in the colony and adviser for his descendants. During the next forty years, he held various positions in the colonial government including secretary of the province, clerk of the Provincial Council, and numerous other executive and judicial posts. Logan also amassed a fortune in land investment and in trade with the Indians. He was also interested in science and mathematics.
