Biographical History
Charles Henry Janin (1873-1937) was a California mining engineer and son of Louis and Elizabeth Marshall Janin. After working with his father, he established the firm of Janin, Stebbins, and Smith (later Janin & Smith). In 1911 he began working alone as a mining consultant, and in 1914 he joined the staff of the U.S. Bureau of Mines in Washington, D.C. Janin traveled to many countries as a consultant and served on assignment in Russia during World War I and again about 1929. He wrote and published many articles on mining and lived with his family on Rancho Marcelino in Santa Barbara County, CA.
