Biographical History
John B. Moullette was born on January 23, 1927 in Camden, New Jersey. From 1943 to 1946 he served in the U.S. Marine Corps, from 1946 to 1949 he served in the U.S. Merchant Service, and from 1950 to 1952 he again served in the U.S. Marine Corps. On January 16, 1951, while stationed at Camp Pendleton, California, he wrote a letter to his father, Clarence, questioning the United States' involvement in Korea. His father, Assistant to the Mayor of Camden, New Jersey, forwarded the letter to U.S. Secretary of State Dean Acheson. Acheson responded to Moullette on February 23, 1951, and their correspondence was eventually published in the New York Times. In 1954, Moullette married Lillian M. Lay. In 1957, he graduated with a B.S. in education from Trenton State College; in 1966 he graduated with an M.Ed. from Rutgers University, and in 1970 he graduated with an Ed.D. from Rutgers. From 1970 to 1971, he was an Associate Professor at Washington State University. From 1971 to 1974, he was a Research Professor at Ohio State University. He also served as Director of the Ohio State Fire Training Academy from 1974 to 1977. Moullette retired in 1989, and received a Distinguished Service Award from Rutgers University in 1992. He became Executive Director at Training Ship Tarpon Springs, Inc. in 1992.
