Barbara Hackman Franklin (B.A. Penn State, political science, 1962; Harvard School of Business, 1964) joined the Nixon administration tasked with the recruiting of women to high levels of government service. She continued public service under five presidents, becoming U.S. Secretary of Commerce under George H. Bush in 1992. She founded the management firm, Franklin Enterprises.
