Biographical History
Designed by architect E. E. Myers and placed atop the Texas Capitol Dome in Austin in 1888, the original Goddess of Liberty weighs nearly 2,000 lbs and measures over 15 feet. In 1986, an aluminum replica replaced the Goddess of Liberty, which was subsequently restored and is currently displayed at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. Each statue dons a toga and crown while holding a sword and gilded star.
