Salomon Benedikt Goldschmidt was a businessman, born on May 28, 1738 in Frankfurt am Main. The Goldschmidt family was wealthy, with many members involved in the iron and metal industry or in banking. He married Rechle Cassel of Offenbach, born in 1746. They had eight children. Rechle died July 17, 1810; Salomon Benedikt died on April 27, 1812.
Benedict Salomon Goldschmidt was born on July 17, 1769, the first son of Salomon Benedikt and Rechle Goldschmidt. His first marriage was to Bella Braunschweig (born 1772), with whom he had eight children. His second marriage, following his first wife's death in March 1813, was to her sister Sabine (Sprinze) Braunschweig (1785-1855). Benedict Salomon died on July 30, 1826.
The second son of Benedict Salomon and Bella Braunschweig was Moses (later Moritz) Benedict Goldschmidt, born on October 6, 1798. He married Hannah Oppenheim in March 1828; they had four children: Bella (called Bertha), Henriette, Benedict Moritz and Marcus Moritz. Moritz Benedict Goldschmidt died April 5, 1879.
Bella (Bertha) Goldschmidt was born March 31, 1829. In 1849 she married Wilhelm Edler von Portheim (1819-1873) of Prague. They had four children: Gabriele, Emma Luise, Ernestine and Max.
Marcus Moritz Goldschmidt was born on October 2, 1832. In 1872 he married his niece Emma Luise Edle von Portheim, the daughter of his sister Bertha and her husband Wilhelm Edler von Portheim. They had three children: Wilhelm Karl, Otto Heinrich and Alice. Marcus Moritz died in 1902.
The youngest son of Benedict Salomon Goldschmidt and Sabine Braunschweig was Salomon Benedict Goldschmidt, born on March 28, 1818 in Frankfurt. He married Josephine Edle von Portheim.
