Biographical History
U.S. representative from New York, public official, and lawyer.
Born in Norwich, Conn. in 1793; moved to New York State in 1811. Practiced law in Buffalo beginning in 1815; served in the U.S. House of Representatives, 1819-1825, and in the New York State Senate, 1830-1837; ran unsuccessfully as a Whig candidate for the U.S. Senate in 1839. Died in Buffalo 19 Sept. 1859.
Albert Haller Tracy (1793-1859) was a prominent lawyer and politician from Buffalo, New York from the 1820s to the 1850s. He served in the United States house of Representatives, 1819-1825, and member of the New York State Senate, 1830-1838. He aligned himself first with the Anti-Masonic Party, then later with the Whigs.
Albert Tracy (1818-1893) joined the Army as a lieutenant in the 9th Infantry during the Mexican War, served as Adjutant General of Maine, 1852-1855, returned to the Army's 10th Infantry and participated in an expedition against the Sioux from Fort Snelling, Minnesota, the Mormon expedition, and the Civil War, during which he was made a colonel and aide-de-camp to Gen. John C. Frémont.
