Biographical History

The Photo Studio began in the 1930s when Joseph Boel was appointed to take pictures of BYU students for the Banyan each year. In 1965 the Photo Studio became a branch of the Division of Communication Services. In 1970 the Graphic Services was combined with the Photo Studio forming a new department called Instructional Photo/Graphics. This department is responsible for the production of all visual aids, transparencies, slides, graphs, charts, and graphic material used in BYU television production.
