Biographical History
Rosamond O'Brien Lowe was born in Devils Lake (N.D.) on April 26, 1904 to Halvor and Jennie (Sampson) Thoe. Lowe was educated in public schools and attended Valley City State Teachers College for one year. She became involved in politics in 1937, when her first husband, Harry O'Brien, ran for the state legislature. Following his retirement in 1951, she was elected to the state senate in 1952 and served eight years. In 1959 Lowe met and married her second husband, Kenneth Lowe, a state representative. She also published the Walsh County Press, which she continued to do after retiring from politics. Lowe served as a delegate to the 1956 Democratic National Convention, Second Vice President of North Dakota Press Women, District President of Federated Women's Club. Lowe died in Feb. 1974.
