Biographical History

Jean Dubofsky was born April 18, 1942. Education: Stanford (A.B., 1964), Harvard Law School (L.L.B., 1967). Legislative Asst. to Walter Mondale (1967-1969); Deputy Attorney General of the State of Colo. (1975-1977); Justice of the Colo. Supreme Court (1977-1987); Professor, University of Colo. (1987-1988); counsel at various private law firms, Denver, Colo. Has championed legislative changes for low-income people, women's rights, water rights, and health care reform. Dubofsky was the lead attorney in the case against Amendment 2, passed by Colo. voters in 1992. The amendment to the Colo. State Constitution would have prevented any city, town or county in the state from taking legislative, executive or judicial action in recognizing homosexual citizens as a protected class. The case, known as Romer v. Evans (517 U.S. 620), was heard by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1996.
