Biographical History

Dancer, actress, early San Francisco dance teacher, and student of Ruth St. Denis.

She acted in many local theatres, including the Alcazar Theatre's stock company for two seasons around 1913, and appeared in vaudeville revues at the Orpheum Theatre. She then turned to social dancing and opened a dance school, the McFarland/Joy Dance Studio, with her sister, Cora McFarland, where they specialized in teaching modern dance, social dancing, and various ethnic dances, particularly the hula.
