Biographical History

Masaru Akahori was born 1884; a native of Tokushima Prefecture, he arrived in the US in 1904; resided in the San Francisco Bay area and worked in Sacramento and Placerville, CA, as a reporter for a Japanese language press; went back to Japan (1919) as a reporter for the Yomiuri Shimbun in Tokyo; returned to the US (1922), moved to Seattle, WA and became managing editor of the Taihoku Nippō (The Great northern daily news); also served as Pacific Northwest region correspondent of the Nichibei Shimbun (The Japanese American news) of San Francisco until WWII; following WWII he resettled in Los Angeles, CA and began publishing the Town crier, a mimeographed Japanese language daily; his various pen names include: Meishu, Bennaishi, Bennosuke, Manako, and Ōishi Hyōroku; he was also known as Ben M. Akahori.

Kiku Akahori, also known as Kikuko, was born 1900; a native of Kanagawa, she arrived in the US to join her first husband Hosaka; her first marriage ended (1928) and she married Masaru Akahori (1935); she died ca. 1961.
