Biographical History
English anatomist.
Scottish physician and pathologist.
Biographical Sketch: Cruikshank and Baillie were the best known successors to William Hunter the anatomist. Cruikshank was Hunter's partner and Baillie his nephew and student; he also inherited Hunter's anatomy theatre and museum. After Hunter's death in 1783, Baillie and Cruikshank became partners, however Baillie stopped lecturing in 1799 to focus on his medical practice. George Fordyce was a contemporary to Cruikshank and a teacher of Baillie.
