WorldCat record id: 744669786 1859 September 22 Born in Cleveland, Ohio (reared in Cincinnati), Taught school in Kentucky, Moved to Alexandria, Virginia, successfully passed the first civil service examination given in the United States, and received a position in the War Department. 1916 His book Emancipation and the Freed in American Sculpture was published. ca.1920 Founded and managed the Murray Brother's Printing Company in Washington, D.C. 1950 February 19 Died in Washington, D.C.
