Biographical History

The collection follows the family of Asa Tallcott (1750-1785). Asa and his wife, Annar (Stillman) married in 1772 and had six children. Following Asa's death Annar remarried and her estate papers are found under the name Annar Ranney. The eldest son, Asa (1778-1860) married three times. He and first wife, Polly White (m. 1802), had four children. Following Polly's death Asa married Fanny Hills (m. 1808), with whom he had four children. Polly Lord (m. 1827) was his third wife and the mother of two children. Many of the papers, particularly the temperance material and the 2nd School District papers, originally belonged to Thomas Hyde Lord Tallcott (son of Asa and Polly Lord, b. 1829) and his son by Lucy Agnes (Hill) Tallcott, Thomas Hyde Lord Tallcott (b. 1860).
