Biographical History
Organization of local labor unions from the Granite City, Venice and Madsion, Illinois, area begun to provide a forum for discussion of mutual problems concerning organized labor.
Initially an AFL (American Federation of Labor) affiliate, the Council was formed in 1904 from the Tri City Central Trades Council. The Council merged in 1959 with the CIO (Congress of Industrial Organizations) affiliate, the Tri City Industrial Union Council (known from 1937 until 1946 as the East Side Industrial Council). In 1988 the Tri City Trades and Labor Council merged with other Madison County, Illinois, councils to form the Greater Madison County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, with the Tri City Chapter representing the area. The Tri City Labor Temple Association was formed in 1917 to provide meeting space and business offices for the local unions.
