Biographical History
Pond research began within the Auburn University College of Agriculture and Agricultural Experiment Station in the 1930s. In 1973 a Department of Fisheries and Allied Aquaculture was created within the college, as well as the International Center for Aquaculture. Prior to the establishment of a separate fisheries department, Homer Scott Swingle (1902-1973) coordinated fisheries research and teaching in the Department of Zoology and Entomology. The Department and Center currently provide technical assistance to the U.S. Agency for International Development for its fishery programs in developing countries.
