Biographical History

The Kittitas County Central Labor Council was organized as the Central Labor Council of Ellensburg in 1937, but was better known as the Ellensburg Central Labor Council. The name of the organization was changed to the Kittitas County Central Labor Council on November 18, 1957, when the assets of the Ellensburg Central Labor Council were turned over to the AFL-CIO (American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations). The organization was incorporated on July 21, 1962, by the State of Washington as the Kittitas County Labor Temple Association. The purpose of the Association was to provide, maintain and operate a building to be used for the benefit of the labor unions in Kittitas County for fraternal and social meeting. The labor council building was located at 213 West Third Street in Ellensburg, WA. Dwindling membership in the 1990s led to the merger of the Kittitas County Central Labor Council with the Yakima County Labor Council on January 23, 1998. The records found in this collection were located in the attic of the labor council building on West Third Street.
