Biographical History

Gregory H. Williams served as the University of Cincinnati's 27th president from September 2009 until August 2012. Williams attended Ball State University where he earned in Bachelor's degree in Social Science and Education in 1966. He received a Master's degree in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland in 1969 and continued graduate school at George Washington University earning a J.D. and a M.Phil in Political Science and a Ph.D in Political Science. Prior to coming to UC, he served as Dean of the law school at Ohio State University and President of the City College of New York. His award-winning autobiography "Life on the Color Line: The True Story of a White Boy Who Discovered He Was Black" was published in 1995.

Raymond Walters was president of the University of Cincinnati for 23 years from 1932 until 1955. Prior to becoming president of UC, he served as an English professor, registrar and assistant to the president of Lehigh University, captain of an artillery school at Camp Taylor in World War I, and dean and professor of English at Swarthmore College. Walters became president during the depression and guided the university through that turbulent time and World War II.

Nancy L. Zimpher served as the University of Cincinnati's president from October of 2003 until May of 2009. She was the university's 25th president and its first woman president. Zimpher attended The Ohio State University where she received a bachelor's degree in English education and speech, a master's degree in English literature, and a PhD in teacher education and administration in higher education. Prior to her arrival at UC, Dr. Zimpher was the Executive Dean of the Professional Colleges and Dean of the College of Education at The Ohio State University, and served as the Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (1998-2003). Under Zimpher's leadership, the university embarked on the UC|21: Defining the New Urban Research University strategic plan, the university's decision-making process was restructured, and admission standards were raised. On June 1, 2009, Zimpher became chancellor of the State University of New York system.
