Biographical History
Founded in 1897 as the Priscilla Club by Mrs. C.F. Curtiss and Mrs. G.L. McKay. Originally comprised thirteen faculty wives meeting Wednesday afternoons at each others homes to sew and socialize. Name changed to Faculty Women's Club of Iowa State College in 1916. Many divisions reflect the diverse interests within the organization. Early activities included: general programs, Priscilla Picnics, receptions for new women, Faculty Follies, hobby shows, dinners, relief efforts during WWI, and projects to enhance the physical environment on campus. An awards program for ISU women students was established in 1913. A community thrift shop was started in 1933 with proceeds going to welfare programs in Ames and vicinity.
