Cornelia A. Babcock (1854-1941) was born in Brooklyn, NY; married Winslow Upton, professor of astronomy at Brown University. They had two daughters, Eleanor and Margaret. Cornelia Upton's primary occupation was with the Auxiliary Board of Missions of the Episcopal Church. Following the death of her husband, 1931, lived with daughter Eleanor in New Haven, CT.; she died in 1941. Eleanor Stuart Upton (1886-1974) was born in Lebanon Springs, NY; A.B. Smith College, 1909; M.A. Brown University, 1910; Ph. D. University of Chicago, 1930. She worked for a variety of social welfare organizations in Boston and Providence, 1910-14; as a tutor, 1914-16; and as a librarian in Providence, 1916-21, at Yale University Library, 1921, and at the Forbes Library (Northampton, MA), 1952-62. Margaret Frances Upton (1890- 1967) was born in Providence, RI; A.B. Smith College, 1912; M.A. Brown University; Ph. D. Yale University, 1925. She taught science and bacteriology on the secondary and undergraduate level, and was a lab technician and research assistant, primarily at St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh, NY, and Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Northampton, MA. Both Eleanor and Margaret resided in Hadley, MA during their later years.
