The Montgomery County Citizens Planning Association was organized in the 1950s to support and encourage sound planning in the development of Montgomery County.

The Montgomery County Citizens Planning Association, through research, testimony, and other activities, publicized the need for planned growth, the preservation of exising commnuities, rapid transit, the expansion of the park system, the preservation of farmland, and the elimination of conflicts-of-interest. In 1969, in conjunction with Montgomery County College, it established the Vinton Lectureship to provide a forum for the discussion of planning and growth related topics.
