Salvadori was born in June 16, 1908 in London, England to Guglielmo dei Conti Salvadori-Paleotti and Giacinta Galleti di Cadihac and grew up in Italy. Between 1924 and 1929 he lived in exile in Switzerland where he earned a Licence es Sciences Sociales at the University of Geneva. Returning to Italy he attended the University of Rome (Doctorate of Political Sciences, 1930) and participated in organizing against Mussolini. He was jailed (1931-1932) and after release from prison went abroad. He joined the British Army in World War II and participated in the Allied landings at Salerno and Anzio and assisted in organizing the underground resistence. Salvadori came to Smith College in 1947 after teaching at St. Lawrence University (1939-1941) and at Bennington College (1945-1962). At Smith he was professor of modern European history. He wrote extensively on modern European history, communism, fascism, political theory and capitalism. He retired from Smith in 1973. Between 1973-1975 he led Smith's Junior Year for International Studies program in Geneva, Switzerland. He died in 1992.
