Biographical History

In 1913 the first formally organized school of public health in the U.S., the School for Health Officers of Harvard University and M.I.T., was established. The administration was transferred from the Harvard-M.I.T. school to the School of Public Health under the sole auspices of Harvard in 1922. Cecil K. Drinker served as assistant dean of the school from 1924 to 1935 and dean from 1935 to 1942.
