Edward Boyd (1916-1989) was born in Stevenston, now in South Ayrshire, Scotland. He worked mainly in radio and television. He was a prominent figure in the world of theatre, radio and television for many years. He was a member of Glasgow Unity Theatre in the 1940s and worked with them as stage manager, actor and director. He wrote many plays for radio and television. Much of his work for television was for Granada and he wrote many of the early Z-Cars programmes. He also wrote the successful BBC series The View from Daniel Pike which starred Roddy MacMillan. He was also involved in the development of Scottish cinema.
