Biographical History

Harris Schiff, New York City poet, was part of the so-called second generation of New York School poets that arose during the 1960s and included Ted Berrigan, Ron Padgett, Anne Waldman, and Joe Brainard. Schiff was associated with The Poetry Project, a poetry organization established in 1966, operating out of St. Mark's Church-in-the-Bowery in New York City. The New York Poets of this period were influenced by art and their work contained much of the same humor and collaborative spirit as their earlier counterparts in the New York School of Poets. His books include In the Heart of the Empire and Yo-Yo's with Money, which he co-authored with Ted Berrigan.
