Ralph Beatley earned his Harvard AB 1913 and followed this with a year of travel on a Sheldon Fellowship. He later became an educator whose primary interest was the training of secondary school mathematics teachers.
Ralph Beatley (1892-1989) was associate professor of education and a tutor in the Dept. of Mathematics at Harvard, 1922-1959. His primary area of concern was the training of secondary school mathematics teachers; he trained teachers and also lectured widely on the subject. He was also interested in improving testing in mathematics for college entrance examinations. He taught mathematics to Harvard and Radcliffe freshmen and sophomores. He directed the mathematics program for the Armed Services Training Program and V-12 units at Harvard during World War II.
Ralph Beatley earned his Harvard AB 1913 and followed this with a year of travel. He later became an educator interested in the training of secondary school mathematics teachers.
The Frederick Sheldon Travelling Fellowship was founded in 1909. It provides Harvard graduates with funds for study or travel abroad.
