Carver School of Missions and Social Work (Louisville, Ky.)

The Carver School of Missions and Social Work opened in 1907 as the Woman's Missionary Union Training School for Christian Workers in Louisville, Kentucky, to train women for Christian ministry and mission work. The school trained many women who would serve as missionaries of the Home and Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. The name was changed in 1953 to better describe its enlarged program. In 1956, control of the school was assumed by the Southern Baptist Convention and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. In 1963, in order to obtain accreditation it merged with the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. In 1998, Southern Seminary sold the school to Campbellsville University and returned the financial assets of the school to the Woman's Missionary Union.
