Biographical History

Dr. Frank Schofield was a Canadian missionary who became a national hero in Korea for standing with the Korean independence movement against the Japanese Imperialists in the early 20th century. During his time at OVC, he discovered Dicumarol, used primarily to prevent blood coagulation and in the treatment of arterial thrombosis. In recognition of his distinguished services to Korea's Independence, Dr. Schofield became the only foreigner to be buried at the National Patriot's Cemetery. In April 2009, Dr. Schofield was designated a person of national historic significance.
