Biographical History

On September 4, 1951, Homer W. Berner arrived in Boise and began a survey and study of the “bench area” of the city. The first worship service was held November 25, 1951 with 79 persons present in the Knights of Pythias Hall. The charter of the church opened on February 2, 1952 and closed May 11, 1952 with 103 adult and 146 baptized members. On that day the service of organization was held at the Wright Community Church. On December 6, 1953 the congregation relocated to the Royal Order of Moose Hall. From June of 1952 through February, 1954 Redeemer had a preaching station at Mountain Home. On May 8, 1955, twenty-three members transferred to help organize Grace Lutheran Church at Horseshoe Bend (ULCA). Construction of the present church began October 9, 1955, and the first service in the new building was held March 18, 1956. An education wing was built and dedicated January 5, 1969. Redeemer became

self – supporting December 30, 1960.
